Chocolate
Chocolate
There is something about the word
even the thought
that causes my eyes
to crinkle in a smile
and my lips to respond
with delight.
Actually ---
it in not the chocolate
that I love –
but the
sugar!
How well I remember
As a child,
reaching into the drawer
where mother kept
the chocolate.
Breaking off a small corner
with great anticipation
I slipped it into my mouth ---
Ah ---- UG!
Bitter!
So you see ---
while thoughts of
chocolate
fill me with anticipation
It is not
the chocolate
that I love
but the
Sugar

True! I wonder how many people actually enjoy the 70% and 85% chocolate that you can buy now - it's the butter and the sugar added that causes that melt that melts us!!
Ah, sugar! It's a terrible addiction and one that grasped hold of me at a tender age. Nice post.
I like sweetened chocolate too but I'm not particularly keen on sugar.... unless its properly chocolate flavoured!
I totally understand and agree with you that sweetened chocolate is the best. BUT, a small sliver of unsweetened dark can actually satisfy my craving.. if that's all I have in the house.
Oh, I had a terrible experience as a child of swiping what I thought was a nice big morsel of chocolate from the kitchen cabinet only to discover it was BAKER"S chocolate. UGH! In my research yesterday I discovered that chocolate didn't take off in Europe right away when it was first imported in the 1600s, because in the New World, the natives drank it bitter -- but once someone figured out about adding SUGAR, hang onto your hat, chocolate was off and running!
Wonderful post! Truely love it like chocolate:)
Me too. I love the sugar. But as a n adult I like the bitterness that chocolate has to offer.
